The Company’s LIN Ambassador Program Inspires Innovative Thinking of Future Talents
06/11/2019 Shenzhen, China
Air Products (NYSE: APD), a world-leading industrial gases company today announced its LIN (liquid nitrogen) Ambassador volunteers recently participated in a kick-off event of the 11th Guangming District Youth Science and Technology Contest and the 5th Student Innovation Contest, which was held in Shenzhen City, South China on 30 October to help drive youth innovation. Air Products has been growing with the local economy and society of Shenzhen City, one of the world’s leading technology innovation hubs, since the company set up its first plant in China 32 years ago.
Themed “Integration, Innovation and Leadership,” a series of programs and contests on artificial intelligence, robotics, electric vehicles for mobility, and 3D pen for art are being held until the end of November to stimulate the students’ interest in science and innovation, and cultivate their talents to solve future challenges of the world. Air Products was invited to demonstrate how liquid nitrogen application technologies can make life better at the opening event that gathered over 500 students and teachers from 35 local primary and secondary schools.
Air Products started its LIN Ambassador Program in the U.S. in the 1970s to bring gas knowledge and technologies to local communities in a safe environment. At the event, Air Products’ LIN Ambassadors demonstrated and explained to the students and teachers how liquid nitrogen can be applied in daily life through several experiments, including: changing the properties of a racquet ball and flowers for cryogenically grinding things like spices; deflating balloons; freezing bananas into ‘banana hammers’ for food preservation; and shrink-fitting for assembling machine elements.
“As a corporate citizen, we are honored to support this meaningful youth science and technology event and play a role in contributing to the local community,” said Jeff Fan, vice president-Southern China at Air Products. “Air Products is committed to supporting the communities where our people live and work, and we value the role we play. With the support of local governments and other parties, we will continue to leverage our resources and expertise, and engage our employees to accelerate innovative development in Shenzhen, as well as inspire next generations to build a better and more sustainable future.”
Air Products rolled out its LIN Ambassador Program in China in 2014. More than 5,000 students and teachers have participated in the program, and more than 100 sessions have been held in over 15 cities across the country.
As one of the first multinational gas companies to enter China, Air Products established its first plant in Shenzhen in 1987. Today, the company operates a strong and reliable supply network in South China covering the Pearl River Delta to serve growing demand from numerous industries, including electronics, metal fabrication and equipment manufacturing, and analytical. Air Products also has been actively driving its LIN Ambassador Program and has supported some landmark projects in the region, such as supplying its hydrogen to power the official shuttle buses for the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and 2011 Shenzhen Universiade.
